I recently experienced SBC and Myrtle Beach in January - quiet. Because of the early arrival of winter in Ohio, a need to get away from work, but mostly because of only seeing the sun one time during the month of December, my wife and I traveled to Myrtle Beach for some vitamin D on New Years Day. We were blessed with some sunshine and moderate temperatures. It sure felt good! Unfortunately we're back home and watching 10" of snow pile up outside. Can't wait for our February visit.
Miscellaneous News
During our stay, I got to be the first person in our newly re-surfaced hot tub. I was told by a Noble maintenance man that the rotted out boards on the front balconies of Phase I are going to be replaced and the stairs and front railings were going to be painted.
I was informed by a homeowner that a court hearing concerning the lawsuits was to be held on January 29.
I have been asked by homeowners if there is a procedure to follow for reporting maintenance problems or concerns outside of their condo. I am not aware of any written procedure, but I would recommend e-mailing:
Bud Hickman - hickman.bud@shaw.af.mil
Scott Harmon - scottharmon@thenoblecompany.com
Evelyn Graham - egraham@shtc.net
Ron Brooks - rbrooks007@charter.net
If you do not get any results, you might e-mail the HAC - carpetham@neo.rr.com
The Hard Rock Amusement Park has filed chapter 7 and has been ordered by the courts to liquidate their assets. The park cost $400 million to build and after just 6 months of operation it has closed for good.

So what was the result of the court hearing on the condo votes?
Seems like even slower times on this blog. Do any of the owners really know of it?
Does anyone know the layout of an end unit? We own Phase II, unit 624 and exchanged it for a later summer week through RCI. RCI says we will be assigned a unit by the timeshare office and we're wondering if we can request an end unit - if it is larger than the interior units??? Thanks, Christine
How's everyone's rental doing this year? Are they all down or just ours? Any comments or ideas?
Last year we were booked for the summer by April. This year we were only half booked by April. So we sent out a colored postcard (200)to our friends and relatives. We designed and ordered 250 postcards from gotprint.com ($32.00) and mailed out the 200 ($56.00). Within 2 weeks we were booked for the summer and most of September and October. Once ordered, it took only about 7 days to get them.
Has anyone jumped ship from using the SBC front desk for rental of their unit? I just got the new Rental Management Agreement and it looks like we will get less rent and have more restrictions placed on us. I'd love to hear from someone that is using a different rental company to see how it compares. I've researched doing the rentals myself but that may be an overwhelming task. By the way, in response to the person that asked about the size of an end unit vs an interior unit: the end unit appears much larger and open than the enclosed units because it has windows on the north wall. I have an end unit and it definitely feels more spacious, bright and airy.
If you decide to stay with SBC/Island Resorts, you may want to void the part of the contract that gives Island Resorts your proxy vote on Homeowners Issues if you don't vote yourself.
End units are also slightly longer due to entry area.
Thanks for the advice on voiding the voting proxy issue paragraph. I also caught that when reading the contract. Seems a bit sneaky.
So what was the result of the court hearing on the condo votes? There was nothing said at the meeting about the status. I think we, as homeowners, should insist that a ruling be made. This year's votes were not counted both ways.
WIFI is marginal at SBC, and now it is also censored. Cable TV is really a bad lineup. HOA never returned to the lineup we had prior to the Dish Network debacle. It is also all analog which does not enhance current tv's on the market and installed in Time Shares.
Does anyone have their own cable or wifi installed in their condos. If so with whom. I have talked to TimeWarner, and they seem confused as to how to bring individual service to units--even if they can
Jan 2010 times seem even slower at SBC. Island Resorts has closed their front desk for six weeks, and they seem to continue to do little to promote this building. Most golf packages, golfer receptions, etc are at the Ocean Dunes.
A couple of first time winter rentals have commented on the poor cable tv lineup. I also find the internet weak and Island Resorts now has a blocker program to restrict access to areas THEY deem inappropriate. Glad they are keeping me pure and honest.
Only the bar has some activity, but that is mostly from locals that support Greg.
